[Techtalk] hosts file

in my /etc/host file I am trying to figure out how to include a property 
for:
serves ./local
any ideas out there?
it appears I need this entry for my local LAN since I now have one mac 
os x computer on the network which doesn't recognize a standard host file

I'm running red hat linux 7.1 on my server
