Mailman presumably receives mail directly, and handles aliases internally?

Have you tried rebuilding sendmail from source, and seeing if that binary
works? (Or just copy the binaries from another machine, or do a
downgrade?)

I tend to do upgrades like this by building from source, then testing with
the new binary in another location, before replacing the old one - at
least, I do on "production" systems. Look on the bright side: at least
your upgrade upgraded something, MandrakeUpdate doesn't even ATTEMPT to
upgrade anything for me :-)
