I sit corrected. :-) You are right, I guess my statement was overzealous
and I do agree with you that the more students get exposed to in
college (OSes, languages, etc.), the more techniques/schools of thought
they have to apply problems. It's akin to going down only one aisle
in a hardware store. You only get one type of tools as opposed to
seeing several aisles where you get different tools for different
situations.
I like the fact that your school teaches theory and leaves the students
to think and figure out applications and uses. I think they don't
think we can think at my school. Maybe they don't want us to...I
know I want to think, that's why I am in college. I want to see
new and interesting things and apply them in ways I find interesting/constructive/useful.
That's what education is for...not only to make money. :-(

FYI- Baruch is a business school. The courses
