[techtalk] file sharing?

I have a networking question.

I am no networking guru, so please bear with me. I have two computers. One running Linux, and the other computer running Windows 2000. I know that it is possible to transfer between these two systems via some
sort of peer-to-peer file share or maybee by Samba. 

Is there anybody with any practical advise in doing this?

As a result of having only two network cards, I'm sure that I couldn't connect these computers AND connect to my cable internet (without getting some sort of hub or router, which I hope to do in the near future).

Anyways.. for now I would just like a quick way to quickly transfer files between the two computers, even if it does mean having to physically unplug my cable connection.
