[Techtalk] 2.4.16 kernel not loading nic module at boot and
sound problems

You're on Debian, so don't worry. <g> All you probably need to do is
revert the shanges you made in /etc/modutils/alias (AFAIK you don't
need that) and run modconf. In modconf you can pick which modules to
insert at boot. If modconf works you shouldn't need to edit the
config files manually.
