[techtalk] Intel 810 Video Chip Set & XFree86 3.3.5 Config

The i810 video chipset is not supported by RedHat 6.1. I think 6.2 supports
it. The ATI Xpert 98 is supported by 6.1. My suggestion would be to
configure X using XF86Setup (if not installed, you can install it from the
RPM dir of the 6.1 CD), manually choosing your ATI Xpert 98 video card and
going with standard monitor resolutions of 30-65 for horizontal and 50-120
for vertical sync rates. I would also choose 1024 by 768 initially.

Hope this helps,

Davida

Good Morrow,

I have been lurking the TechTalk for about one
month.
A quickie bio would consist of haven worked with PCs
since '85, telecomm network control specialist, hard
drive (IDE / SCSI) and other desktop network technical
support since. Recently married to domestic partner of
six years, sharing the delight of raising our five
year son of on '51 Chris Craft 47ft Buccaneer motor
yatch - pair of diesel engines, a diesel genset ...
and I do ADSL technician support, a.k.a. dsldyke ;-)

I have not had luck configuring (RedHat 6.1) XFree86
X server for a HP6545, nor a clone 86 system, both
with i810 video chip sets built onto the motherboard.
Ugh! I have downloaded the rpms from Intel, and read
numerous times their docs. Stil am getting either
error: 111 or a lovely 8 bit 640x480 on a NEX
Multisync XV17+.
  I also tried an ATI Xpert 86, 8MB, (1600x1200 16.7m
colors @85Hz refresh rate), flicker free up tp 200Hz,
PCI card.
I do work best with a 'recipe' format of docs.

Sincerely,

jamie
