Hi Sharon,

i am sorry but the problems you encountered are part of a larger
problem that's being discussed on the usenet since quite a while.

Especially on "linux.redhat.devel" group there is a huge thread on the
subject "More 6.1 Upgrades Woes"
starting with this words:

''The Red Hat 6.1 installer is a bug-ridden mess.''

Reading the discussion there i soon was convinced that i actually
would be the best to 'vote with your wallet' by returning the whole
package to Red Hat and insisting in getting your money BACK.

Ok, just in case you are a forgiving ;-) person you first should try
the bug-fix they provide on
http://www.redhat.com/corp/support/errata/RHEA1999045-01.html
I hope it will solve your problem.

Anyway, with Red Hat Linux it's always a good idea to look at the
errata, bug-fix and update pages from time to time You find a nice
little overview here:
http://www.redhat.com/corp/support/errata/rh-errata.html
Please tell us if it worked!
(Perhaps also installing the new e2fsprogs packages might be a good
idea?)

Best greetings,

Karl-Heinz
