[techtalk] Newbie: my printer.

Hopefully this will help. I have Red Hat 6.0, GNOME, kernel 2.2.12, HP
DeskJet 895cse connected to the parallel port. Because I upgraded my
kernel, I had to compile in support for the parallel port. (Don't know if
the rpm kernel has this built in). I ran the printtool and selected the
"HP DeskJet 550C/560C/6xxC series" and selected all the options (Fix
stair-stepping/send EOF/etc). I know this isn't the proper way to do it,
but it does the job for now. There is a driver for this printer at:

	http://www.proaxis.com/~mgelhaus/linux/software/hp880c/hp880c.html

However, it's only offered as source code and it requires downloading the
ghostscript source code, copying the driver source files in, and
re-compiling ghostscript. When I tried this, it didn't compile which is
why I chose the other driver. Since I'm a college student, I haven't had a
chance to figure out why this won't work, so it'll have to wait until
winter break [18-Dec]. (Unless some very kind soul would be interested in
looking at it and letting me know what's wrong [and maybe even sending an
RPM...ok, I won't push my luck ;^) ]. It seems that the ghostscript I
downloaded didn't have a Makefile [maybe configured for RPM?], but the
driver for the printer did; if this is the problem or helps)
