This is getting off topic.  Also, it is annoying enough to have almost caused me to write my *opinion*.
And I hate it when I waste others time on my *opinions*.  

But if anyone knows the best place online to get affordable memory,    I'd also planned a near future upgrade, but have now postponed it until RAM drops in price.

Again, supply and demand. You have mentioned no instance here that tells
me the owners are changing the prices of a room on a "whim." Its merely
good business.
