BIG tip for anyone choosing to do partial backups of 
their Linux boxes.

Back up your /home directory. Back up your user directories.
Back up anything you install that you don't want to drag 
down from the net again. Back up any wierd configurations
you do in stray directories.

AND back up /etc!!

In Debian, at least, almost all your config files are in /etc.

So if you want to reinstall and save your configurations - 
as Walt asks here - save /etc.
