[prog] replacement strings

Eeva, thanks for such terrific instructions on how to define and
ESPECIALLY test elisp functions definitions. I have been using emacs
for.....I would rather not say how many years.... and other than
grabbing the occasionalccaisional function from a friend's .emacs
file, have never gotten into customizing it. Now that I know how to
test things in the scratch buffer, I may be more adventurous.
