Might I also suggest to the OP the excellent manual that is also
available at the website?  There is a tutorial section in it and the
whole thing is nicely detailed.

A good thing to remember about MySQL is that it was intended to parallel
natural English syntax, so if the statement doesn't make sense to you
reading it, it won't make sense to MySQL either!  :-)
