I reinstalled again and made sure to include the glibc-kernheaders 
package.  Still no good.  If you look at /usr/include/linux/pci.h that 
RedHat provides and compare it to the same file posted on any of the many 
websites that show the latest version of the kernel, you'll see that RedHat 
has eliminated a lot of code (and of course, those are the functions I 
need).  I tried fixing the problem, replacing one header file at a time, 
but those headers are way too complicated and interconnected to fix one by 
one.  You know, solve one problem and five more spring up to take its place.

For the record, I'm talking about RedHat 7.3, Linux 2.4.18, and every 
package provided on the installation disks is now on my computer.  I went 
overboard...
