   Position Summary:
    The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Data Science Institute at the University of Arizona uses big data to improve agriculture.
    
    We seek a scientific programmer to develop and maintain data collection, transfer, and analysis pipelines. Our team develops open source software and open data to advance research for the improvement of crops and cropping systems. We develop generalized pipelines and software tools to harmonize data and enable research. Data are generated from a suite of imaging and environmental sensors deployed on UAVs, tractors, robots, and in the field. Our goal is to enable the use of such sensors, to develop and deploy algorithms, and make data work for scientific insight and engineering applications.
    
    The incumbent will work with a wide range of scientists and engineers at the University of Arizona as well as at research stations and collaborating academic institutions. The incumbent will be expected to provide leadership in the development of new software and the adoption of best-practices to support quality control, to remain current on the latest technologies, to apply new knowledge to a cutting edge system, and to provide leadership in design and implementation decisions.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    
      *   Research, engineer, and develop software that simplifies complex data to answer real-world problems.
      *   Work with team to organize, curate, publish, and use data.
      *   Develop, refactor, test, and document software.
      *   Work with collaborators to identify and remove bottlenecks in the data to knowledge pipeline.
      *   Gather feedback from collaborators to define software and analysis requirements and implement robust solutions that meet these needs.
      *   Develop and maintain technical and non-technical documentation.
      *   Work in an iterative, agile environment.
      *   Stay current with emerging technologies and science.
    Minimum Qualifications
    
      *   Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or related field and three years experience in software development.
      *   Proficiency in three or more programming languages including one scripting language such as R, Python or Matlab.
      *   Experience developing and using databases.
      *   Demonstrated ability to adapt and learn new skills.
      *   Excellent organizational skills.
      *   Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team.
    
    Preferred Qualifications
    
    
      *   API development and use.
      *   Python.
      *   Data standards and conventions.
      *   Statistics, machine learning, and/or simulation.
      *   Geospatial data management and programming.
      *   HPC environments, cloud computing, and / or Docker and Kubernetes.
      *   Computer vision and image analysis.
      *   Sensors and IOT.
      *   Experience working in a collaborative scientific research environment.
      *   Experience with PostGIS and MongoDB.
      *   Version Control and Issue Tracking Software.
