Research Software Engineer

The Center for Diabetes Technology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA U.S.A. seeks a Research Computer Programmer to join its team. Incumbent is responsible for assisting in the design, development, documentation, testing and maintenance of software programs in Java, C and other languages as part of the Android cell phone based artificial pancreas system. The successful candidate displays creativity, attention to detail and the ability to work independently as well as within a team to successfully complete complex projects on schedule.

Position requires Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field. If no Bachelor's Degree, candidate must have at least 8 years of relevant professional experience. Must have experience with Android OS, MySQL or SQLite databases and Java. Position required incumbent to analyze, troubleshoot and repair computer hardware and software, analyze new services and technologies and make recommendations and think creatively to complete projects with aggressive timeframes. Must be able to work effectively within a team, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage time effectively.

This position is located in the United States but will accept international applicants who are already eligible to work in the U.S. There is no relocation allowance for this position. This position is mainly a facility working position but is eligible for telecommuting some of the time.
