ROLE OF THE PROGRAM MANAGER:

The Program Manager will be the steward of the Systers' online community by enacting project timelines and milestones, overall vision of the community, and community awareness. Systers is the oldest community of the Anita Borg Institute.

Systers is the world's largest email community of technical women in computing. It was founded by Anita Borg in 1987 as a small electronic mailing list for women in "systems". Today, Systers broadly promotes the interests of women in the computing and technology fields. Anita created Systers to "increase the number of women in computer science and make the environments in which women work more conducive to their continued participation in the field." (Read Why Systers?) It serves this purpose by providing women a private space to seek advice from their peers, and discuss the challenges they share as women technologists. Today, systers is curated by the current Systers' Keeper, Robin Jeffries.

This role is critical to the future success of the Systers online community. It requires good program management experience as well as great communication skills. Key to the success is to work effectively with both Her Systers' Keeper, Robin Jeffries, who has a long history of moderating Systers, as well as with ABI's program team. This position would be responsible for developing better coordination between Systers and all of ABI's programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

* Developing ways of making Systers be more of a community
* Developing ways of increasing cooperation and consistency with ABI's other social network activities.
* Providing a vision on how to leverage our Systers' volunteer community
* Developing a plan for the future of the technology base, in cooperation with both Her Systers' Keeper and ABI's Director of Operations, who is responsible for ABI's IT infrastructure.
* Developing a plan, in cooperation with Her Systers' Keeper and ABI's VP of Programs, to ensure ongoing leadership for the Systers community
* Developing and executing a plan for better integration with all of ABI's programs

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:

* Good project management skills, specifically with open source projects
* Great communication skills with the ability to influence many stake holders at different levels
* Background in IT or CS - familiarity with mailing lists with a basic knowledge of its functionalities and social networking technical protocols and processes
*             A belief in ABI's mission
*             College degree preferred
