Software Development Engineers - #17817
Amazon.com's Search Applications Team is hiring talented and enthusiastic Software Engineers. The Search Applications team is responsible for building the UI platform that helps our customers find and discover products online. Candidates must be experienced, innovative, creative, flexible and self-motivated, with the ability to design and write high-performance, reliable, and maintainable code. Great candidates will have demonstrated experience in and passion for customer facing website development. 

Requirements: 
* Candidates must also have a strong computer science background: a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science is required along with a minimum of 3-5+ years of work experience. 
* Candidates should be experienced in Perl, Java, C++, Object Oriented Design and be familiar with application and database programming under UNIX/Linux. 
* Demonstrated experience with HTML, CSS and AJAX is highly desired.
* Solid communication skills and ability to work well in a team are critical. 
* Experience with large database driven applications and/or distributed computing is highly desired. 


Software Development Manager - Search Applications experience #17002
Amazon.com is looking for a talented and experienced software development manager to lead a team of software engineers in the ongoing development of key areas of the Amazon.com web site and the Amazon platform. Our ideal candidate is passionate and knowledgeable about building software systems, managing teams, working with business customers, and creating a world-class customer experience.

You will be responsible for managing programs and projects that improve our consumer's ability to find, discover and buy on Amazon.com. Specifically, you will manage a mix of large-scale initiatives and smaller projects that impact the Amazon.com homepage, product pages, search, and store navigation. You will manage a team of 6-8 software engineers, and work with several other teams to deliver on your objectives. You will have responsibility for measuring and improving the performance of your systems, for the day-to-day monitoring and operational support, and for directing the technical roadmap for the area.

The successful candidate will be able to identify, gather, and analyze business requirements and translate them into technology solutions.  You will manage and grow an engineering team that meets the needs of the business and works well within the overall system architecture.  You will mentor and hire engineers, complete hands-on technical work, and provide leadership on complex technology projects.

The candidate will have a history of architecting and building large-scale software solutions; leading teams in project scoping and planning; and delivering to tight schedules.

Candidates must have a degree in Computer Science or related field, at least five years experience in software engineering and least two years experience supervising software engineers.  You should demonstrate strong leadership skills with a proven track record of leading strong teams and solving complex business problems in a dynamic, challenging environment. You should also have experience in C++, Java, Perl, Oracle, SQL and using Unix environments in an e-commerce and internet context.
