General Description:

The Linux Kernel Engineer will be responsible for core, back-end technology
development including, but not limited to, the design and execution of
components necessary for a conversion of transaction-heavy elements of our
current ticketing engine from the VAX (Macro-32) to custom linux clusters
(C/C++). The linux kernel engineer will play a critical role in a multi-year
ticket engine conversion project.

Workflow:
-------------------------
You will be a key player in the conversion of our ticket engine components
to a new linux-based architecture. As part of research and development
group, you will work closely with your team members, the Ticketmaster.com
development team, and other strategic units in the Ticketmaster
organization. You will be responsible for aiding in the architecture,
design, and implementation of new core technologies based primarily on
C/C++.

Essential Functions:
-------------------------
65%: Coding/Development: C/C++ linux kernel engineering. May require some
maintenance and coding in VAX assembly. May also be exposed to perl /
mod_perl when working with the Ticketmaster.com development team. Primary
focus will, however, be linux kernel engineering.

20%: Design: Design of new systems and architectures based on linux.

10%: Troubleshooting: General troubleshooting of core components across all
platforms. 

5%:  Documentation: Documentation of components is critical during the
design and execution phase.

Required Experience:

-------------------------
- 4+ yrs. experience


- proven proficiency in linux kernel engineering
  (deep OS knowledge including file systems, etc.).

- C/C++ programming

- strong general OS background in Linux or
  Unix variants

- RDBMS experience

- A strong background in algorithm/data structure
  design and implementation

Ideal Experience:

-------------------------

- Ability to learn and "read" multiple programming languages

- Ability to read VAX assembly specifically

- perl or mod_perl experience

- Strong proficiency with RDMS systems (Oracle and
  mySQL ideal)

- Apache web server experience

- Past experience as a system administrator

- Degree in Computer Science or Mathematics

- Strong documentation skills
