Hello Folks !!
Here's an series of updates on the road ahead, namely some tasks at
hand for LCIN. On reflection, I realised that its hard to know what
needs to get done, how to approach it and find a workable solution.
Each has their own reasons to be here but for those who do wish to
spend time in building this community , here is a list of skills and
the kind of roles this chapter needs.
Also, dont worry about not having done these before ..... Libre
software is perhaps the easiest way to pick up skills and try out
things you never tried earlier and the nicest part is that there are
folks who will help you out with the technical bits so this is your
opportunity to learn something new and develop skills.
Tasks are examples listed in random order, so feel free to add those
that are not listed here but you think is relevant to the wiki
migration. If you have a better idea/suggestion and if you're keen to
do more things than those listed here, you're welcome to reply to this
thread (on the list please) for better co-ordination.
- Spidering the wiki for content (since we have not heard from the
current wiki admins)
- cleaning the wiki
- maintaining the migrated wiki
- maintaining the planet aggregator (adding new feeds, etc)
- community maintainence
- web design skills
- general writing skills, including these specifics : (NB: some
already exist and need a cleanup)
-- wiki content and maintainence,
-- technical documentation,
-- IRC or mailing list ettiquette
- ability to translate from English into another language
- Co-ordinate with the hosting provider and ensure that the move is
smooth. (In progress, -Me.)
- Keep the list informed about progress (In progress, -Me.)
Since its a wiki some of the above tasks (like writing skills) can be
taken up by anyone (its encouraged as we need as many hands on board
as possible) but if you're not sure feel free to mail the list.
Notre Bene:
1. Please remember that if your availability isn't immediate (ex. busy
for the next 4 months) then please wait until you have more time and
write to the list at that time. Things happen all the year round and
there will be other opportunities.
2. It'd be ideal to not nominate someone else since they may either
not be interested, or are too polite to say no.
HTH,
Vid
