Is anyone attending or planning to speak at one of these events as
both events are free and attendance will not be limited to active
members of LinuxChix. Please understand that only the initial Yes/No
permission for the LC-miniconf has been taken from the organisers of
both events and the rest of the work and discussion has to occur on
this list, by us.
I gather from the AussieChix that the event organisers role is limited
to providing a room (and any other required resources) but I've
noticed that their planning and execution[0][1][2] is done a few
months prior to the event, but never mind.

Even a half day miniconf would need planning for :
+ sponsors
+ speaker slots (volunteers to contact and accept talks, co-ordinate)
+ date and timings.
+ travel
+ type of talks (bof's, lightening, talks)
+ [....add...]
Event organisers have tons of work and its not polite to keep them in
limbo if we are not able to get our act together. That also includes
another event organiser I spoke to about a LC-miniconf. Fwiw, this is
a community event and (we need to keep it that way) there is tons of
work to be done LCIN has to pull of a ground event and its our
responsibility to identify and take the initiative to pull off the
miniconf. So it would be a lot nicer if people responded on the list
with ideas and suggestions, instead of off-list +1's. Apologies if
this sounds harsh but its been a week since the earlier message.
Please respond here if you are interested in an LC miniconf. IIRC,
Gnunify CFP's close on Jan22. I understand that most would not have
done this earlier (neither have I) but if LCIN is happier limiting
itself online, that's fine too. At the very least, its only polite to
inform the organisers or freed and gnunify (who are sub'd here) that
we are not interested this time around.
Comments/Thoughts.
Thanks,
Vid
