Is this an opinion, or experience?
In my experience with the "real community" in Delhi, it was far from
the "perfect" place for women interested in participating in community
events (and lists).
I happen to know that one woman participant dropped out of a workshop
organised and conducted by that same community, specifically because
she couldn't stand being hit on by one of the *facilitators* (and none
of the community seemed to think anything was wrong with this, let
alone do anything about it). Nor did I have a pleasant experience
participating on the ILUGD mailing list. They appeared to specialize
in making excuses for each other's utterly obnoxious behaviour, all
while claiming to invite and be open to women's participation.
Not that everyone in ILUGD behaves that way. I know a few very
encouraging and supportive people.
As for what I should do, I'll go and experience the atmosphere and
tone of the event myself, and then decide whether, and how much, to
participate in future. Maybe things have changed for the better now.
It's important for indichix to share the experiences they have had
participating in community events *as women*, because not everyone
has, or can share, those experiences.
