I guess any mail client that supports POP3 should be able to download
messages from your GMail account. Just click on Settings on the top
right corner and look in the POP and Forwarding section for activating
as well as configuring the mail client. Main info required are the
POP/SMTP server names and their port numbers and the method of
authentication.
