	I had the same problem and this is what Akkana helpfully told me:
"Once you're subscribed to the list, you'll get the lessons, and
students' replies and questions, and you'll be able to post your
own questions and answers to the homework.

But for past lessons, you can always use the list archives. The
list page http://mailman.linuxchix.org/mailman/listinfo/courses
has a link for the archives near the top, which goes to
http://mailman.linuxchix.org/pipermail/courses/
