I'm Julie, currently studying Software Engineering in Ireland. I've
been lurking on several Linuxchix lists for a few months, but I only
really started to pay attention a couple of months ago, when I finally
replaced my desktop OS with Ubuntu :)

I'm taking this course to expand a bit my horizons. Every online
web-app I've developed uses MySQL, because that's the one I started
with and always fall back on by default. Now I'd like to be able to
make an informed choice and get a clearer picture of the similarities
and differences between the two.

There's a couple of small apps I'd like to do that require databases,
but my web host only offers MySQL so I'm not going to touch them for
now. I'd like to echo Joyce's question, as for any recommendation
concerning Postgres web hosts?

I think I'm going to build a small database to organise all the stuff
I have to keep track of for my job search. Something simple enough and
who knows, it might even help me stop missing application deadlines.

Looking forward to next week's lesson!

Regards,

Julie
