Hi, everyone,

Ooops! I left the time out of the last announcement. Here is the
corrected version. Please pass it along to anywhere appropriate.

Thanks,
Caity

The next Triangle LinuxChix meeting will be this Wednesday, March 15th
from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Our special guest speaker will be Tanner
Lovelace, and he will be
giving us a primer on Linux security. Linux systems can be more secure
than Microsoft Windows-based systems, *IF* security is set up properly.
One of our members had her machine hacked. Learn how you can avoid this
kind of unpleasant experience, both at home and in the office.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER: Tanner Lovelace has been using Linux for the past
six years. He spent three years as a programmer/system administrator
working with Linux and other Unix systems where he was responsible for
Unix security on a daily basis. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in
Virtual Reality at the University of
North Carolina.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to conditions beyond our control, we have moved to
the UNC-Chapel Hill campus in the Department of Computer Science,
located in J. Carlyle Sitterson Hall. Directions can be found at
http://www.cs.unc.edu/Info/General/Directions/

There are maps there and everything. Most of the stuff it says about
parking, however, is only applicable during the daytime (until about 5pm
or 5:30pm). Most parking is open after 5pm. Sitterson doors are locked
after 6pm but we will put signs on the outside doors directing everyone
to a particular door where someone will be waiting to open it, at least
until 6:45. Please try to be close to on time so that you can be sure to
get in.

BURRITO DINNER! Ann Meeker-O'Connell will be our snackgrrl
(snackchick?) this month, and she will be bringing burritos from the
Cosmic Cantina in Durham, as well as soft drinks. Please be sure to
bring $3 for the snackgrrl, and please also RSVP to
caitlyn at netferrets.net so that we can be sure to have some for you.
We'll have two vegetarian varieties as well as ones with either beef or
chicken.

So... please do mark your calendars for this Wednesday. This is also a
great chance to network with other women geeks. So... plan on being in
Chapel Hill on Wednesday night.

I hope I'll see y'all there...

All the best,
Caity Martin
