Hi everyone!
I have been a member of these since I discovered LinuxChix at SCaLE last
February and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading these posts. Though I have
not posted much I am interested in contributing to the Mag.

I am a full-time student at Cal State San Bernardino working on my BS in
Computer Science. We use Linux in class so I have some experience, though I
still consider myself a newbie but willing to learn.

My votes:

1. ** What is our content? **

A) An open source publication (Linux, Solaris, etc.).
B) Linux-centric (open source).
C) Linux-centric with no emphasis on open source vs. non-open.
D) Women-centric regular columns (like upcoming women software events,
etc.).
E) Specify Other.

      I vote A and D.

2. ** Who is our audience? **

A) All (experts/newbies, all gender identities).
B) Emphasis on Women in the tech world, but friendly to other gender
identities as well.
C) Emphasis on Women in the tech world period.
D) Specify Other.

I Vote C. Personally, I believe that men who are mature enough to
accept women as equal peers would read it regardless of the emphasis on
women in tech. Having articles on all aspects of Tech in the magazine
without to much emphasis on specific women (except when women are
spotlighted like a feature every month on an unsung hero)

3. ** Any cool ideas for the title of our mag and our motto? **

"By Linux Women for the Tech World"

- Do we want to use the "Linux Chix" trademark? Will it help us in
reaching our audience?

Using the Linux Chix trademark may help in reaching more women. I
believe that it may also chase away those who are not interested in
women in tech (about 90% of men, haha). The content should be the deciding
factor of whether the magazine is read by those not of the Linux Chix
persuasion.

- Do we want a title that doesn't include any gender references so we
can have a broader audience?

Gender in the title could hurt or help. It depends on the audience.
I would rather have something more gender neutral than gender specific.

- Do we want something witty, wacky, or straightforward?

    Here are my suggestions:
      Alternative Computing: Linux or
      Alternative Computing With Linux

I believe the title should be professional and to the point. I like
witty and wacky, but (considering the posts I have read since joining about
not being treated as an equal in the tech world, of which I have experienced
as one of about 15 females in the undergraduate and graduate program) having
a title that is witty and wacky keeps us from being taken seriously. But if
the audience preferred is just women and we are not interested in publishing
a professional magazine the go for it!
