THIS HELPED. I did have the same problem. I also have other problems.... but this one was the worst. http://www.rkrishardy.com/2013/06/fedora-boot-fails-with-unit-basic-target-m ay-be-requested-by-dependency-only/ I was afraid to remove those left over kernel image files because everything looks so different from what I'm accustomed to seeing. I used to remove old kernel images from the /boot directory, but when I did so, I always did a "uname" first and was able to identify the old kernel files by release number. So it was easy to do something like: rm *-29-* and be confident I wasn't removing anything I needed! But there was no naming convention pattern to these files, and that made me nervous that I might be removing the wrong file. I have plenty to rebuild (my destroyed database - won't be too difficult as I've ported to Maria once before), learn new stuff (Maria DB, systemctl, firewalld), and some stuff to learn how to revert to what was working just fine in the older versions (maybe iptables, Gnome-classic). It should keep me busy for a while. My priorities are to 1. get a boot sequence that I don't have to babysit (so if the power goes off when I'm away and comes back on, I'll have my ssh server back). I'm still not quite there yet. 2. Figure out if I dislike firewalld only a little or a lot and configure my network to automatically restart the way it is supposed to (with firewalling and some ports enabled and filtered). 3. Port my database exports (backups) to Maria. 4. Get Gnome2 to look/act as much like Gnome Classic as possible or find another desktop with text menus (get rid of those nasty icons that take up too much realestate), and 11 or so desktops to switch to that can be named for what I'm doing on them. Oh yeah, and get rid of airplane mode. Give me a choice between configurable and convenience and I'll pick configurable 80% of the time. Take away my option to configure and I will not appreciate the "convenience". How come I'm stuck with new services I've never seen before, new error messages I've never seen before and no man pages for them? What happened to the man pages? Anyway, thanks so much. I feel less stuck now. If I have more issues I can't handle on my own I'll write again. It sounds consistent with your problem when nothing wants to boot. Before you remove (or move) those, make sure you actually have another kernel installed! (check /boot/vmlinuz*). It sounds consistent with your problem anyway, although don't really see how the upgrade could get it so wrong. (if your keyboard doesn't work, you'll obviously have to do this from the live CD of course) Wim _______________________________________________ Techtalk mailing list Techtalk at linuxchix.org http://mailman.linuxchix.org/mailman/listinfo/techtalk From carla at bratgrrl.com Tue Jul 29 20:22:23 2014 From: carla at bratgrrl.com (Carla Schroder) Date: Tue, 29 Jul 2014 13:22:23 -0700 Subject: [Techtalk] free registration to Linuxcon Chicago Message-ID: <20140729132223.279d62cf@studio> http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/linuxcon-north-america Hey all, I have one free registration to Linuxcon North America in Chicago August 20 - 22, 2014.
