DocBook export for OOo is in somewhat of a Beta status. There are
known issues with it.
For example:
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=51180
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=62093
If I read everything right, Bug 62093 pretty much describes the same
problem as what you're running up against.

This bug, and pretty much all DocBook bugs are set to "Later"
Basically that means there are a lot more higher priority/critical
bugs that need to be fixed first. The developers here at Sun are
pretty busy... and so far no one in the open source community has (or
can) stepped up to look at the problems in the filter.

The OOo websites (a good place to start is here
http://documentation.openoffice.org/ ) - although in a bit of a mess
right now - have a lot of information on them. We're working on
cleaning up the website... moving a lot of the info over to a Wiki
(here http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Main_Page - note the
Wiki is just getting started, so has mostly techie/dev info, and
little end user info.. that will change over time) and trying to open
things up to the community a lot more.

Other OOo resources you can use... the OOo forum is great for user
support... http://www.oooforum.org (some of us at Sun read the forum,
but you cannot rely on it as a communication channel to Sun OOo
developers).

Hope this helps.

C.
