But it's a *software construction* tool.  Not a general-purpose make.
Sure, it might be hammered into doing other things, but why should I
have to write python modules to get it to do what I want?

Hmmm, looks like a wrapper around make, I'm not sure why that would be
better.  Also they admit it isn't well-documented.

This does appear to be oriented towards building C/C++ programs, rather
than being general-purpose.  But I could be wrong.

Hmmmm. The last release seems to be a few years ago.
Though there does seem to be more recent relative, Boost.Jam
