I tried the pinging as user www-data, which appears to be the user
that apache runs as, and there was no problem.

Incidentally, here's my resolv.conf:

# cat /etc/resolv.conf 
search vm.jvds.com 
nameserver 216.17.96.211
nameserver 216.17.104.16


How do I turn on named query logging?
