This is what Frontier Silicon UK do, courtesy of yours truly - yes, 
that's right, they're too cheap to hire an IT support guy, so the 
design manager's son has to come in to set up the RAID array for their 
schematics. Pathetic. But I digress :^)

This machine boots off its own internal ATA drive, then boots. /dev/md0 
is referred to in /etc/fstab, by which point all the drivers have 
initialised, so it Just Works.
