The software you use to partition your drive has no effect what so ever on
the partition types you can choose. 

After all, the software is simply a way of implementing the various types of
partitions. Both cfdisk and fdisk have exactly the same list of partition
types to select from. The only difference between the two programmes is
personal preference.

All I want to know is the difference between the 0x05 and 0x85 extended
partition types.
