I double-checked the original message in mutt.  Mutt gives a warning:

So, it might be that evolution simply chokes on a badly formatted
message.  mutt seems to be able to render it.  Poppy's mailer seems to
be evo-1.2.0, so...  Now which is it?  Evo sending badly formatted
messages or evo choking on them, or both?
