By the magic of grub, no, you don't. Has saved me a few times from the
usual mistake of forgetting to run lilo before rebooting for a new kernel.

Grub also seems to be happier with large disks as well. On lilo I had to
fiddle with an LBA option for a 20Gb drive, but on Grub, no hassles.
