I haven't exactly clocked which is lightest or which is fastest, but all
of these are fast:

IceWM
XFCE
BlackBox
FVWM2
FVWM
AfterStep
WindowMaker

I, personally, like IceWM and run it by default on my Libretto 50CT and
my even older, more llmited Libretto 20CTA.
