IMHO, they are the worst possible choice. They require proprietary
software and do not support Linux.

Earthlink is also a good choice. Many, many POPs, but again, you'd need
to configure for each location.
Many Linux dialers support storing many dialup configurations (i.e: one
per location) and allow cloning one connection to create another, so
things like DNS settings can remain constant and configuration is a
breeze. This was always my solution. kppp is very good this way.
