Please ignore my previous post. I upgraded the kernel to 2.4.17 and ran
netconfig and all is well.

I am scratching my head on this one. I can't seem to get this card to go.
The computer will not recognise the card. It had no problems with the
Windows partition, but I hate using Windows. It is there for work purposes.
I am on a 2.2.19 kernel. Would upgrading to a 2.4 kernel help?

I've got DLink DFE-680TXD and it worked beautifully with my first
attempt at installling Slackware on my new laptop. The pcmcia stuff in
the kernel makes the default tulip driver work (according to notes I
took at the time). I doubt you'll have any problems with the 690. The
spec here

indicates support for Linux. I think most new DLink stuff is
linux-friendly.

I'm using a Sony Vaio so I don't know if there are significant
differences that will be a cause for concern. This stuff is all new to
me.
