We have a HOWTO on building a Linux computer at the LDP. The Unix
Hardware Buyer HOWTO, by Eric S. Raymond. It's quite good, and very
well maintained. It covers all of your hardware concerns, including
laptop recommendations, tuning i/o, recommended warranty provisions
and a system quality checklist. Just to list a few.

Appeasement, said Winston Churchill, consists of being nice to a crocodile

in the world is Microsoft, and everybody is busy sucking up to it.
