Linux Sys-Admin Crash Training CourseLinux Sys-Admin Crash Training Course

Created for FirstRing IT Staff
By Paul C. Davis
Senior Network Engineer
IT Operations Mgr, US.
November 7, 2001

This document will serve as a training outline for all wishing to learn to
become a Linux System Administrator in a short amount of time. The first two
weeks are geared for a General Linux Sys-Admin. The other week(s) are for
FirstRing needs.
The successful completion of steps described within requires the effective use
of resources (Internet and FR Internal), high levels of determination when
facing obstacles, and lots of time and patience. This is, quite simply, a fast
paced environment using the best method (in my opinion) of learning – trial &
error.

Good Luck

configuration files and what parameters you would most likely be using. (Review
the Docs).
Hint: You’ll need to do this in order to setup the Admin Software.

I may add 1 more week to this course. I may not.
Rate of knowledge absorption will determine my course of action.

Keep extensive notes and backups of configurations. What ever you have to do to
make your life easier, but still be able to accomplish the task at hand.

Expect to be able to implement all this on your own in under 8 hours
 do I smell
a test?
