[Techtalk] eth0 appears to be configured correctly but can't ping across network

Also make sure your Ethernet cable is working.

I went into my job once to fix a server. It had been unplugged and
shutoff. I plugged the Cat5 back in to the nearest wall outlet. For 20
minutes I sat there playing with the routing table saying 'This makes no
sense!'.

For laughs and giggles I put the Ethernet cable into another jack.

It worked instantly.

I was like "You people are going to drive me to drink."

all this talk about the routing table ... the only suspicious thing i
noticed in your routing table was that your gateway had a metric of 0
...
but that won't have any effect on your not being able to ping hosts on
the
same physical network.

you should grab tcpdump and use that to debug ... as someone mentioned
earlier, just run tcpdump on your host in one vterm and then open up
another vterm and attempt to ping something. switch back to where
tcpdump
is running, and you should see some output. let us know what output you
see and hopefully we'll be able to help further :)
