[techtalk] frightening, I know... :-)

I think that this would be "techtalk" material...
If not, I apologize, just holler at me and I'll
shuddup.

I have volunteered at a local area private
school to teach a class one day a week on
computers, primarily hardware/OSs/
maintenance stuff. The only other class they
have is teaching Microsoft Word/Excel and
typing, so I felt that something more practical
for the students would beneficial.

My question is simply this: What concepts/
ideas would you all consider to be valuable
and important to newbie computer-users?
What aspects of computer use would
you aim to teach?

I've only just started and basically the
students know very little about computers,
so the first class I went over the basics of
what the hardware is composed of, i.e.
hard drive, cpu, ram, motherboard, etc.
and some terminology stuff like megabyte,
cdrom, what is a drive, etc.

I appreciate any input on this...

Thanks,
Walt
