MySQL is a nice product, but I'm going to be contrary and recommend
against the O'Reilly book. A friend of mine bought a copy, and was
annoyed to discover that someone had written on almost every page of the
book. Upon further inspection, we realized that the writing consisted
entirely of corrections to obvious typographical or factual errors.

"MySQL" by Paul DuBois and Michael Widenius (New Riders Publishing) is
supposed to be much better, though I don't have a copy and can't vouch for
that personally.
