I have no idea. It's possible that one some systems, the clock
switches to line frequency. Line frequency is not very stable (it's
subject to substantial short and long term fluctuation, especially
when there are reactive loads on the circuit, like motors), and
is not really a good time source. And what if you happen to be in a
country that uses DC power distribution?
