[techtalk] notbook/redhat6.2

hello,
 
i know, you had recently a discussion about notebooks and linux, but i didnt
find the right context for my problem. 
 
ive a dell latitude cpi r400gt (bios a02). im able to install suse 7.0 but
not redhat 6.2. the formating of the hard disk (ibm 6 gb) took more than
half an hour (without the packages). there is no other os on the disk.
 
i couldnt boot afterwards anyway. when i booted with a boot disk the error:
unable to mount root fs on 03:02
Kernel panic:VFS /dev/hda2 appeared.
 
so something went wrong during the installation process.
 
i havent tried redhat 7.0 yet and  i would really prefer redhat 6.2. 
7.0 is too new for me beeing (more or less) secure.
 
maybe one of you had the same problem?
