Hello,
UCB has an excellent long-term contract opportunity for a Senior Linux Systems Administrator in Palo Alto for 1+ year full/part time. Please send your resume if you meet the following requirements. We require on-site interviews.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement desired Linux architecture, availability, and operations based on the IT team goals/policies
Manage and troubleshoot physical and virtual Linux servers
Perform hardware installation, setup, troubleshooting, server builds, configuration, and remote management
Ensure availability of essential Linux development packages (e.g. Tomcat, MySQL) for various Linux platforms
Deploy advanced alerting and monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios)
Performance monitoring, system fine-tuning, trouble shooting on production systems
Must have Requirements:
Bachelors’ degree plus 5 years of strong Linux OS system administration experience
Demonstrated experience in Linux Production systems support; solid experience administering various flavors of Linux including Fedora, CentOS, and Ubuntu
Solid experience with updating and upgrading Linux systems using tools such as yum and apt-get - must have experience upgrading Fedora with yum and resolving issues that arise during this process
Solid experience building package distributions for various Linux platforms
Experience with open source/Linux development and production environments
Scripting experience (e.g. Perl, Python)
Thorough understanding of TCP/IP suite protocols and DNS systems
Extensive knowledge of standard services - SSH, FTP, NFS, NIS, LDAP, DNS, Samba, sudo, file systems, etc.
Strong problem solving/troubleshooting skills with an interest in diagnosing and troubleshooting networking, storage, operating system, software and application issues
Other Preferred Skills:
Experience in deploying and managing Citrix/Xen virtualization technologies pertaining to Linux Virtual Machines
Ability to set architectural and tactical direction based on strategic needs
Clear understanding of networking and storage principles and architecture
Experience with Cisco or firewall technologies
Experience provisioning and maintaining iSCSI arrarys
Experience with wireshark, snoop, tcpdump, nfsstat, Splunk, PRTG or equivalent
Ability to work with limited supervision, be a self-starter, and able to work closely with others
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
