Senior-level Embedded Software Engineer

ShotSpotter is the world leader in gunshot location and detection
systems. We are proud of the work we do to help public safety and the
military save lives, reduce gunfire-related crimes and improve the lives
of people across the country and overseas. We're a dynamic corporation
with very little hierarchy, a respect for individuals and ideas, and an
exciting, dynamic environment.

Job Responsibilities:

Share responsibility for all aspects of firmware for our acoustic
gunshot location sensor: design, programming, validation and
documentation.

Required Technical Skills and Experience:

ShotSpotter is looking for a senior engineer with at least five years of
experience in embedded software design, programming and validation. This
person will have strong C/C++ programming skills and a proven track
record of bringing products to market. He or she will have experience
with at least two or more of the following:

*	Strong design skills in areas of multi-threading, IPC and
concurrency
*	Some assembly language experience
*	Assistance in hardware bring-up
*	Device driver programming

Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

*	Linux operating system with kernel-level experience
*	Hardware integration
*	Mathematics background with ability to understand algorithms and
translate them to functional code
*	Experience working with audio data

Character skills:

ShotSpotter is a fast-paced startup that has already made a huge impact
on crime in over a dozen cities. Our new firmware engineer should be
self-motivated and highly effective. He or she must be able to
communicate clearly and concisely as well as work effectively in a
small, distributed team. There are many pieces to gunshot location
(audio processing, pulse detection algorithms, radio networks, new
hardware, multiple platforms, integration with other vendors, etc) so
the ability to learn and use new skills quickly is a must.

Education:

Minimum B.S. Computer Science, M.S. Computer Science preferred.

Special requirements:

Candidates must be a US Citizen and should either possess or be willing
and able to obtain a security clearance should it be required.

Location and telecommuting:

ShotSpotter is based in Mountain View, CA. We'd like to hire someone
local but already have a distributed firmware team so if you'd like work
from somewhere else in the US, we can talk about telecommuting. No
relocation offered.
