An immediate need exists for a Systems Administrator/Support Engineer in
the Amazon.com Global Payments Operations team.  The GP Operations team
is responsible for 24x7 monitoring and outage response of all Amazon.com
Payment systems.  Additionally, this team is involved in new features
and Payment Systems projects from inception through deployment.  The
successful candidate will have 3-5 years experience supporting live
applications in their production environment and will have
knowledge/experience in the physical deployment of network
infrastructure components (routing, switching and firewall) Web and/or
payments applications.
 
Job Responsibilities:
 
Duties include, but are not limited to: 
 
* Ownership of one or more production applications or components. 
* Monitoring of production applications, including creating and/or
implementing automated methods to monitor production applications. 
* Collection and presentation of relevant application performance
statistics. 
* Coordination of installation and setup of servers. 
* Ensuring efficient use of hardware and scalability of deployed
systems. 
* Troubleshooting and resolving problems with production systems. 
* Representing GP Operations at meetings with other groups and partners.

* Creating documentation of production systems.

Qualifications:
 
* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and at least 3-5 years of experience
in a Web and/or payments platform environment. 
* Expert knowledge of LINUX. 
* Ability to solve complex problems.  
* Experience installing and managing Web platforms and applications. 
* Expert knowledge of networking, security/firewall, and UNIX shell
commands.  
* Advanced Functional Scripting knowledge (e.g. Perl, Python, Shell,
etc.). 
* Excellent customer service and communication skills.
 
Skills Desired: 
 
 * Experience in a 24/7 production environment.  
 * Knowledge of XML, C++, and CGI programming (prior experience in
product development is a huge plus). 
 * Performance tuning (especially Apache and databases, Oracle
preferred).  
 * Cisco certification (CCNA or higher).

Unique Requirements: GP Ops engineers will be part of a 24/7 on-call
rotation. As such, there will be time periods when they will be on call
for all production Payments systems. While on call GP Ops engineers will
need to carry a pager and cell phone with them so they are easily
reachable.
