Systems Administrator - Part Time, temporary

Babeland, the nationally-recognized women-owned and run sex toy store, seeks
part time Systems Administrator for immediate temporary position in our
Oakland, CA, USA office.

The position of Systems Administrator is responsible for keeping systems
running and helping make people's jobs easier through a good application of
technology. This includes supporting desktops, servers, the network,
end-user applications, and Babeland Web properties. They report to the IT
Manager and work closely with all members of the IT team and web team, while
supporting Babeland staff at all locations. This position requires knowledge
of:

.	Network protocols and services - TCP/IP, DHCP, WINS, DNS, SMTP, IMAP, POP,
HTTP, SSL, SSH, IPSEC.
.	Server applications, including web, mail, and essential network services.
.	Network hardware, including switches, routers, and firewalls.
.	Standalone desktop applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite.
.	Database applications, including Access-based and Microsoft SQL Server
based applications. Familiarity with SQL and relational database concepts.
.	Security and disaster recovery.
.	Support for desktop operating systems. Examples of support include
installing operating systems from scratch, rescuing data, reconfiguring the
OS, helping answer users questions and training users, and fixing
miscellaneous problems that pop up. Administration of a Windows network,
including Active Directory and the use of global policies.
.	Support for server operating systems, including Windows Server and Linux
(particularly SuSE, RHEL, and Debian). Also, implementing and managing
Active Directory. Examples include setting up DFS; setting up global
policies, including folder redirection; writing management scripts;
installing MTAs; and installing software from source on Linux.
.	Support of computer hardware. This may include things like replacing
components, upgrading a machine, narrowing down a problem to a particular
component.
.	Support for network needs, including managing cabling projects; ensuring
data reliability and speed of the network;
configuring/troubleshooting/installing routers, firewalls, switches; and
installing and supporting VPNs. Examples include support of Netscreen
firewalls and VPNs, troubleshooting network problems using tools like
Ethereal, and configuring the network to support VoIP without loss of
quality.
.	First line support for phone systems, which include Avaya Partner,
Asterisk, and Toshiba Strata. This includes basic administration and simple
cabling issues. Coordinate with phone consultants for more complex tasks.
.	Analysis. May include recommending solutions for improving operating
efficiency and effectiveness;  risk assessment; and security.
.	Support applications. Current applications include (but are not limited
to) Miva, StoreMan, Endicia DAZzle, FedEx ShipManager, Microsoft Office
(Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access), Mozilla Firefox, and Mozilla
Thunderbird. Support can include integration between applications, such as
our fulfillment software and FedEx ShipManager.
.	Familiarity with Free Software and the Linux shell.
.	Knowledge of at least one programming language is expected.
.	Familiarity with SQL and relational database concepts.

In addition to the specific technical skills above, this position requires:
.	Remote support of other locations (including phone support).
.	Good oral and written communication skills.
.	Responding to help desk requests.
.	Other tasks and projects as assigned by manager.

10-15 hours per week, possible growth with demonstrated job mastery
