POSITION SUMMARY:

The position of Senior Technical Support Specialist is designated as a key
role in all aspects of technical support for 8e6 products; primarily with
regards to Linux based servers, but including Microsoft 2k/2003/XP servers
and workstations. The duties of the Senior Technical Support Specialist
include but are not limited to:



• Troubleshooting server/client, or network-related problems.

• Troubleshooting and problem resolution for end users.

• Analyzing and recommending solutions to problems.

• Writing of monitoring, reporting, and other scripts.

• Loading and configuration of software and patches.

• Implementing monitoring tools and ongoing monitoring of systems.

• Perform on call support for a 24x7 production environment.

• Diagnose and solve system, server, workstation and network problems

quickly.



The ideal candidate will have a strong background in customer services and
must be able to collaborate with various technical groups to provide project
analysis and support. The work will involve issues that arise in production
environments but it may also include installation of 8e6 hardware based
products. Candidate must have understanding of OSI model, TCP-IP, HTTP & UDP
networking components, DNS, Microsoft Domains, Active Directory and LDAP.
Must have network troubleshooting skills including an understanding of
routers and firewalls with the ability to use common tools such as netstat,
traceroute, ifconfig, tcpdump and others. This will be a phone and email
support position with a possible high volume of calls. A key component to
the position is the willingness to work a problem from start to finish with
attention to detail.



Required skills include:

• 3-5 years experience in UNIX/LINUX system admin.

• Ability to work as a part of a team is essential.

• The candidate must be very detail and accuracy oriented.

• Good customer service, written and oral presentation skills.

• Experienced in routing, TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, DNS, firewalls, routers and

hardware/software configuration.

• Knowledge of UNIX shell, SQL, Perl, HTML

• Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 server and workstation plus Windows XP.



Strongly desired:

• BSCS or equivalent

• Cisco Certification

• Microsoft Certification

• MS SQL or MySQL certification

• Linux/Unix/SQL related scripting tools/languages

• Cisco Security and Switch experience

• VPNs, RAS and Radius experience
