Job Announcement

Website Director / Webmaster

Legendary KPFA-FM was established in 1949 as the first listener supported radio station in the U.S. Located in Berkeley, California it is the flagship station of the Pacifica Network, which is a mission-driven organization dedicated to free speech, peace and social justice, and cross-cultural understanding. Broadcasting at 59,000 watts, KPFA serves much of Northern and Central California with an eclectic and diverse range of cultural, music, news and public affairs programming.

KPFA is seeking a Website Director to maintain and develop the KPFA website and to create strategic planning initiatives to expand KPFA's new media broadcast presence. The right candidate will have demonstrated expertise in web development technology as well as excellent project management and team oriented leadership skills

Responsibilities
Maintain and develop all aspects of the KPFA website, including:

* As part of the Engineering Department, work with the KPFA management and programming department on planning and expansion of KPFA's online presence
* Plan and coordinate moving KPFA.org toward a feature-rich online community
* Oversees daily site maintenance, supervising copyediting, basic graphic design and troubleshooting
* Work closely with KPFA programmers, staff, and governing board to procure and develop site content and information resources
* Coordinate website content and IT volunteer teams including work study interns
* Collaborate with staff and creative professionals on evolving and implementing periodic graphic re-design
* Provide email tech support for site users and develop online FAQ/knowledge base
* Oversee content development strategies toward publishing KPFA web content to other formats (such as print and device publishing)
* Assist IT Director in providing computer technical expertise for management and staff
* Assist tcp/ip networking with-in our bsd/linux/windows network  
* Pioneer use of ip's to deliver real-time broadcast quality audio 
* Develop functionality for our intranet sites
* Assist in the development of tools supplementing our new automated system of satellite based tcp/ip file-transfer


Required skills

* Solid HTML hand coding, and CSS
* Experience with PHP and MySQL, and developing custom dynamic websites with PHP and MySQL
* unix skills and comfort working at the unix command line
* Experience with Perl, unix shell scripting, or other programming languages
* Experience with XML integration and RSS feeds
* Experience with TCP/IP network administration
* Knowledge of web accessibility standards
* Knowledge of web usability and information architecture
* Excellent problem solving skills, demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies
* Excellent attention to detail
* Ability to use technology to improve the use of data and streamline operations
* Facility to think critically, balance competing demands, and satisfy conflicting needs with tact and diplomacy
* Demonstrated interpersonal skills and sensitivity to effectively work in inclusive teams
* Copyediting and/or promotional writing experience
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills - ability to assimilate, analyze and present information clearly and concisely
* Experience with photo editing and graphic design
* Commitment to the KPFA's mission

Preferred skills:

* Experience with Python
* Experience with VoIP, SIP and other audio streaming protocols
* Experience with print layout
* Experience creating email newsletters
* Experience developing online communities
* Experience with linux or BSD's
* Radio production or sound editing experience
* Experience working in community radio


Salary
This is a full-time (40-hours/week) Communication Workers of America (CWA) union position. Annual salary is $34,849.00 with a very generous benefits package. There is a six-month probationary period.
